POTTERthon: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Hi lovelies

This book was my absolute favourite!  It was so action packed. I loved the idea of the Tri-wizard tournament and the addition of characters that were not from Hogwarts.  In this book, Harry somehow gets his name drawn out of the Goblet of Fire and is therefore magically bound to participate in the Tri-wizard tournament despite being too young.   Numerous difficult tasks have to be completed in order to win the tournament.

Because the bulk of the book is based on the tournament, I decided to base my mani on this.  The index finger shows Harry's name on a ballot that someone entered into the Goblet of Fire.

On my middle finger is the tail of the dragon that Harry had to fight in order to get a clue for the second task of the tournament.  He used his flying skills to beat the dragon and get an egg that reveals to him he will have to reclaim something special from a lake.  Which leads to my ring finger, where I painted gills.  Harry eats gillyweed, which gives him gills and fins in order for him to swim freely underwater.

Finally in the third task, they're thrown into a maze where they have to find the trophy in order to be declared the winner.  Harry gets to the trophy at the same time as his schoolmate Cedric, and both are transported to a graveyard and come face to face with Voldermort.  Yikes!

POTTERthon: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Hi all!

Already on book three of the Harry Potter series.  This was a really good book (although I still think book 4 was my absolute favourite).  We're introduced to Professor Lupin, who ends up playing a big role in the following books, Dementors also have a huge presence in this book, and Harry eventually learns how to fight them using the Patronus Charm.  Harry mysteriously gets a Firebolt 2000 as his broom broke, but they fear that Sirius Black is after him and therefore the broom is confiscated until he discovers that Sirius is 'family' and is innocent in Harry's parents death, and through a time-turning device Harry saves Sirius from Dementors.  Phew.  A lot happened!

So for this book I chose to highlight some of recurring items and themes.  On my index finger is the amazing Firebolt 2000, the brook that gives Harry a lot more speed during his Quidditch matches. On my middle finger is Prongs, the stag patronus that saves Sirius' life from the Dementors.  On my ring finger is a dementor, all black and scary and life sucking, and the pinkie represents Sirius Black as he's seen throughout the book as a big black dog.

A lot of writing for one teeny picture :)  Stay tuned for book 4 shown tomorrow and don't forget to check out the manis the six other lovely ladies came up with today:

POTTERthon: HP and the Chamber of Secrets

Hi all!

Are you ready for day two of the POTTERthon series?

The second book of the series was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  There was a lot I could have done to represent this book - but I kept this one simple.

In this book, Harry hears a strange voice, finds out he can speak Parseltongue, and several students are found petrified.  The strange voice is a basilisk that's housed in the Chamber of Secrets, and the serpent that petrified the students.

So I decided to base my mani.  I painted the face on my index finger, and the remainder of them are basically just the serpent's body.  This was done using crackle and 'sponged' on with saran wrap - the texture is amazing!  On my thumb I painted the sword which Harry used to kill it

Like this series?  Don't forget to see what the other girls did today for Book Two:

POTTERthon: Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone

Hi all!

Today starts the POTTERathon series that myself and six other lovely ladies are taking part in.  For today and the following six days, we will show you manis inspired by the seven Harry Potter books :)  My dear brother introduced me to Harry Potter by buying me the first three books for Christmas.  He also bought me every other book in the series as soon as they came out.  Talk about spoiled :)  (It doesn't hurt that he's 10 years older than me - I got spoiled by my siblings)

Anywho!  Less writing, here's what I came up with for the first book:

For the first mani of the series I decided to go with things that describe Harry Potter himself.  The lightnening bold scar found on his forehead that gives him away to everybody he encounters, a snitch because he becomes Gryffindor's seeker in Quidditch due to his great flying capabilities, his very first wand, made from the same things as Voldermort, and his glasses, of course (which, in most movies have no lense.. lol)

And of course the base of my mani are colours that represent the house he belongs to, Gryffindor :)

Thanks for having a look and don't forget to check out the other Harry Potter inspired manis that were done today by these lovely ladies:

Yellow and Pink

Hi everyone!

It's finally Friday!  I've been looking forward to this weekend for weeks - my bestest girl friend is flying in today to visit me from Ontario, we haven't seen each other since August of last year when the boy and I visited my home province for a bit :)

I loved the mani I'm showing you, it reminded me of a circus tent for some reason, it's so summery and bright - I love bright anything!

For this mani I used three coats of Color Club - Almost Famous, a nice, bright yellow creme.  Once that was dried I used tape and covered the sides then painted on a thick coat of Orly - Bubbly Bombshell.  So cute :)

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Flakie & Glitter Layering Combo

Hi all!

I do have a Monkey See Monkey Do to post (late yet again) but the photos are on my camera which is at home.. boo.  So instead I show you a really pretty mani that I wore not too long ago.

For this I used Color Club - Express Yourself, witch is a beauuutiful purple creme (it's more colour accurate in Rebecca's post here).  The accent was CC - Mrs Robinson.

I layered Revlon's Stunning on all nails, a beautiful silver and holo glitter polish, then on my accent nail I also added some OPI - Divine Swine on top.  For the remainder of the nails I layered Finger Paints - Asylum and Twisted.

I loved this combo, flakies seem to just add so much depth to a mani :)

Gradient Nails

Hi all!

Today I have gradient nails to show you.  So many beautiful gradients have been floating around the blogosphere lately and I decided to give it a go.  I used the tutorial written up by Sammy, aka the Nailasaurus.

Her tutorial is super easy and gives a gorgeous gradient!

To get this look I started with a base of China Glaze - Electric Beat, a polish I just recently picked up from the Electropop collection that came out earlier this year.  Then using the method linked above, I sponged on Orly - Frolic with a bit more Electric Beat.

I felt I needed a bit more sparkle so I added a coat of Nicole by OPI - Make a Comet-Ment, which is pretty much the same thing as China Glaze Fairy Dust, very fine holo micro glitter.  It just gives it the right about of glitz :)

Monkey See Monkey Do

Hi all!

There's a new challenge of sorts over at the Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenges group called Monkey See Monkey Do Monday's (okay, and as per usual I'm a few days late).  It's pretty self explanatory, find a mani that someone else did that you loved, and re-create, but always give credit where credit is due!

I chose to recreate this gorgeous mani done by Leslie at Polish Art Addiction.

The link posted to the original mani shows a tutorial on how to achieve this look if you're interested in having a go at this!

For this mani I used a base of NOPI - I'm a Belieber, my first ever purple creme.  Then on the two accent nails I added 2 black strips on either side using milani nail art polish, then I used a small brush and added a blue strip using GOSH - Pool Party.

Using the nail art polish I created the geometrical design in the middle, then dotted China Glaze Electric Beat.  I then painted on small triangles on using Electric Beat, OPI Steady as she Rose and China Glaze Lemon Fizz

I love love love how it turned out.  It's not as perfect and straight as Leslie's mani, but I could live with that, the colours go great together and it was just a fun and very 'me' mani.
